I ask because way back when my father had a Power Macintosh G5 running 10.2.x and when I upgraded him to 10.3.x, he was unable to open DMG files until I performed a firmware upgrade that was needed by the Power Mac G5. The only tool I was able to find that can successfully burn a Ubuntu ISO to USB is UNetbootin. At least that's true for Ubuntu 15.10 and Mac OS X 10.8, but there are reports on the web regarding other versions too.
